Besides the obvious idea that you want to be quick on your feet, agile and ready to be different than you expect from yourself, there is a direct connection here to the concept of Improv Theater and the “Yes, and…” technique as made famous by Viola Spolin, the founder of Chicago’s Second City Company and generally considered the founder of Improv Theater itself.
The idea is that you never refuse an “offer” from your colleague in an improv skit. You always advance the suggestion by an explicit or implicit “yes…and…”
